GIS Based Multi-Criteria Analysis for Assessment of Groundwater Potential and Land Suitability

چکیده

The practical application of sustainable development concepts in groundwater resource management will be complex. The past studies indicate long-term aim of integration to develop the spatial decision support system (SDSS), which is devoted to help decision makers in spatial problems. The essence of this paper is to present a strategy of the groundwater potential with integrating geographical information systems (GIS) and multicriteria analysis (MCA) in Kullursandhai Reservoir Catchment, Tamil Nadu. Even though, GIS has several limitations in the domain of spatial decision-aid in-order to over come these limitations, integration of GIS technology with expert’s knowledge and especially with pair wise comparison Analytical Hierarchy process in MCA is essential. The estimation of Groundwater potential zones using SDSS includes different spatial governing factors like Geology, Geomorphology, Land use, Soil and Rainfall. This was validated with the groundwater potential estimated through the Water Table Fluctuation method of Groundwater Estimation Committee (GEC) Norms. Further, the land suitability for crop suitability analysis was carried out and is inferred that the land suitability with high potential zones for Paddy crop, moderate potential zones for Cotton and lower potential zones for Chollam.
